We try to pair side games close in rating when possible. If a player has a bye in an ongoing tournament, he or she might be paired with a player requesting a side game. If this is round 2, the side player may elect to join the tournament with a 1/2 point bye. In round one, a player who arrives late without advance registration, but no more than 1/2 hour after the start of the round can be paired with the player with a bye. Game time will be shortened to Game/75-5sec. In the event of multiple late arrivals, the player with a bye can choose to play or keep the bye, provided that the late arrivals can be paired together. The player with the bye has the option to play a late arrival who is more than 1/2 hour late, or to keep the full point bye and just play a side game. In the latter case, the late arrival has the option to join the tournament in round 2 with a 1/2 point bye. Game time for very late arrivals will be Game/60-5sec. TD makes the final determination in pairing late arrivals. All other pairings are determined by the pairing software.
