World Champion Garry Kasparov embarks on his third historical series. Now he puts himself under the microscope. In the first volume of this new series Kasparov scrutinizes his most interesting games from the period 1973-1985, whilst also charting his development away from the board.

From his emergence as the new chess star from Baku, to his first clash with reigning champion, Karpov. At the age of 15, Kasparov gave the world a preview of what was to come, winning the competitive Banja Luka international tournament with a score of 11.5/15, 2 points ahead of the field. At age 22 he was the youngest to win the World Championship. He soon became the top rated player in the world, a rank he retained until his retirement.

Kasparov is one of the greatest of all time, perhaps the greatest, if it were possible to make such a claim.

He is clearly the most prolific of the world champions, competing in countless tournaments while world champion, and authoring three monumental series, in which he examines himself, his nemesis Anatoly Karpov, Fischer, and the champions that came before him.

In Garry Kasparov on Modern Chess,
Kasparov examines his encounters with
